Madeleine's School Art

Despite the current snowstorm, the kids were back to school today, and Madeleine came home with a whole load of artwork.  Take a look at the drawings she made:

Wondering what this picture could be?  And why the dainty little girl is standing over a black pool with a reflection of an evil shadow dinosaur in it?  Not to worry.  The artist explains:

MADELEINE: Oh, um.  That's a picture of GINNY.  With her pretty skirt and shirt. (conversation halted as Madeleine tumbles out of her chair then scampers back up.) She's...um...um...looking at her book of dots.  Um...um...the BLUE thing is her rug, and she hid her sun toy UNDER her rug.  So...right now, she's standing on her rug.  Like OUR rug!  Like OUR rug, that I hid stuff under.

Yipes.  Who's the person in black undergoing a torture chamber experience with an enormous spiny jellyfish?  And what's with the red angel who was scribbled out and surrounded by cryptic hieroglyphics?  And then there's the other figure, wielding some sort of weapon and looking like she's about to reign terror down on her torture victim.  This is one heck of an apocalyptic drawing, Madelene.  Or, in her words:

MADELEINE: Um...like, like, the YOUNGER girl is...the ONE that is THREE is swimming down in the pool with the black bathing suit on, and the one with the brown hair that has a skirt and a long-sleeved shirt is, um, is, like, "pshooooo!  pshoooooo!"  Because she's squeezing out some SHOT BLOOD, and she wants to see it.  Because she wants to see what it looks like, and, like, the YOUNGEST girl is all tied up, and, like those little "pshooooos" that are squeezing on her and it REALLY hurts.  Like, a tadpole is swimming with the swimming girl.  And Mommy?  Um...THESE blue stuff are icicles that is really WATER that has...that has...um...that is FLOATING around.

Okay.  I feel so much better knowing that it's a tadpole and not a ginormous jellyfish with the little girl.  (Who, it seems, is in fact being tortured, as she is tied up underwater and subjected to gushing blood coming from the above-water person's shot injection.)  Shudder.

This one seems straight-forward, and for once is not particularly creepy.  It's a colorful snowman, right?  Pretty much, as Madeleine explains:

MADELEINE: Oh.  That is just Frosty.  He's standing at the NORTH POLE.  He put on a shirt and pants.  Pants that, um...only fit his BUTT.  His butt goes around and around!

And then there's this drawing, dedicated to me.  (My guess is that Madeleine wanted to write "For Mom," but when she asked her teachers how to spell "for," they assumed she meant the numeral):

So.  To me this looks like a devil child, with some fire-covered thing burning in effigy next to her.  The upside down creature coming out of the bottom of the fire is a bit of a mystery, however.  Let's see what Madeleine has to say:

MADELEINE: Oh.  Um.  Hello Kitty is dressed up in a Violet costume, and, like, and, like she's saying to the bunny one, "Must be the boogey-man that lives under the COUCH!"  And she painted her ears, but her earrings are sticking out.  And her ears are also sticking out.  The red thing is the couch.  And Mommy?  I forgot to cover this "M."  It's because I thought I could put it there, but then I noticed I could run out of room.  I was gonna put an "M," and then my whole name.  But...my name was too long, because, like, like, my drawing was right in the WAY.

Upon returning home, Madeleine started in on yet another drawing, a very P.C. rendering of: "Mom, look, I made a Native AMERICAN!"

Nicely done, on the whole.  Lots of very creative drawings with only a slight subtext of blood & gore, captivity, and boogey-men under the couch.  What an artiste!
