More Drawings

Madeleine is used to seeing Julia's piano books sitting open on the piano, with all sorts of markings I made on them, so naturally, she assumed that writing on pages of music is totally legit.  This morning, I overheard Ethan stopping her in the act and explaining that only the owner of the music him or herself is allowed to make such markings.

ETHAN: Madeleine.  Madeleine.  It's really important that you DON'T draw on our music.  ONLY the people who are using the music should ever write on it, and then, they're only marking down things that are really important for the music.

A few moments later, Madeleine grabbed a blank piece of printer paper to draw on instead, creating her VERY OWN music score on which to write:

Hey, with the other three members of the Rowe house actively using sheet music every day, it makes sense that Madeleine wants to be part of the fun too, right?

Julia did not write any music today, though she did pick up her "Madetha" book where had left off the other day.  We get to learn a bit more about Madetha's school (to which, if you don't remember, her big sister was taking her when we last visited the Madetha story):

"Madetha is in first grade ware she lornd math, sinis and writing."
Sounds like a good curriculum to me.  I wish I could lorn sinis.  I wonder if Madetha will grow up to be a sinistist like Auntie Shannon.

I won't give away the whole of the Madetha book, but I'll give you a few highlights.  We learn more about the older sisters:

"Matilda is in calig, Fiona is in hig schoole and Athina is in 5th grade."
JULIA: Well, Mama?  I thought that since I talked about MADETHA'S school, I should write about what grade all the OTHERS are in.

I wonder what calig Matilda goes to.  Does she live at home and commute?  Or is she just attending a calig that's close enough to home that she's able to visit frequently and bring Madetha to schoole?

Later in the story, we learn that it's a REALLY big day for Madetha:

"Happy birthday Madetha your sevin today."
I hope that when Julia turns sevin on her next birthday, she'll also have a sparkly number sevin floating on top of her head.

And without giving up too much in between Madetha's sevinth birthday and the ending, I will let you know that the story finishes on a very bright note:

"This will be the best day evre sade Madetha"

Now, while Julia was writing her sweet and happy ending to her Madetha story, Madeleine was busy drawing a picture of a drowning girl:

ME: Madeleine, what's happening in your picture?
MADELEINE: Um...she and she are SINKING.  I didn't draw the other person.  Because...she's COVERED by water.  And she's in a hole that's ALL BLACK.
ME: And what happens after she sinks?
MADELEINE: Uh...they DROWN in a black hole!

Um.  Wow.  She's not macabre or anything.

ME: And what are all those black things up on top?
MADELEINE: Uh...those are the LETTERS that say what is HAPPENING.

Watch out, world.  We have a new budding book-author in the Rowe household!
