Weekend Projects

Being house-bound for the long weekend means LOTS of time for arts and crafts.  Julia even made a special, hand-crafted present for her little sister:

The papr dols inside this envelope are Tinkerbell and her long-lost sister, Periwinkle, from Madeleine's favorite movie, "Secret of the Wings," of "I want Secreeeet of the Wiiiiiiings!" fame:

Believe it or not, Madeleine is absolute, ecstatically IN LOVE with her paper dolls.  She has been playing with them with rapt attention, flying them around the house shouting out their dramatic adventures: "Tink!"  "Peri!"  "I'm FLYYYYING!"  "One by one, HERE WE GOOOOOO!"

Even Julia, ever ambivalent about making statements in the absolute, was able to recognize how much Madeleine loves her paper dolls.

"She sure is havin' a good time!" Julia declared to me cheerfully, as Madeleine ran around the dining room, wildly flying her fairies through the air.

Another of Julia's weekend arts and crafts projects is her very own surfboard:

JULIA: Mom, this surfboard is for my MOVIE!

Here we go with the movie again.

She is back in full-swing, planning her movie.  Not only did she make surfboards for everyone in the family, but she has put together a whole movie portfolio:

Inside her envelope, she has all sorts of papers laying out the plans for the movie, as well as an entire movie script and a full cast and characters list.  I get to play Bebe, the mother of the main character.  Madeleine gets to be Peri, the surfing bunny.  There are people cast in this movie who don't even KNOW they're going to star in a movie yet.  This is going to be a major production, people.

While Julia is anxious to get filming, I have encouraged her to do some practice runs first, so she and Madeleine tried out their surfboards this morning:

At the moment, Julia is dressed in her movie outfit, anxiously waiting for me to begin filming.  It looks like shooting at least one scene today is inevitable.  Stay tuned for the trailer of this upcoming blockbuster, "No One Is In My Way Today," or, as Julia often writes it, "NOIIMWT."  Guaranteed to receive an Oscar nod!

  1. Love the paper doll gifts! How perfect. Julia has a great brain but I am sure it's hard to keep up with all the "big ideas." I think maybe Ben Affleck should be notified. He is from the area and he is a director. Maybe he'd be interested in directing NOIMWT. XOXO, Love and Hugs, Yiayia
