Videos and Emails

As you may know, we have been making a lot of music in the Rowe household during our stay-at-home/social distancing.  After Julia's band teacher had complimented and then featured her recording of a section of band music (part of her online school assignment,) I encouraged Julia to send him a video of the two of us playing a flute duet.  Ethan also suggested she send a video of a trio we sang to her Select Choir teacher.

Seems like it should have been a simple task, but MAN did Julia hem and haw over it.

ME: There's no harm in just sending an email to let them know you've been doing some ensemble work at home.
JULIA: But emailing teachers is SCARY.
ME: What's scary about it?
JULIA: Because.  What if they say "You're TERRIBLE?"
ME: A teacher would never say that to a student.
JULIA: But what if they're like "You sound so bad."

As you can see, Julia was being really reasonable about it.

She finally conquered her fears and sent the emails, and lo and behold, she received warm and welcoming responses from both teachers.  Her band teacher ended his message with "Keep 'em coming!" and her Select Choir teacher started her message with "I am SO proud of you!!"

So, naturally, Julia was totally right to be so scared to send these videos along.

For those that haven't seen this on facebook, here is Julia singing a trio with Ethan and I:

She should totally be kicked out the music program at school for being so TERRIBLE, don't you think?
