Sharks Recognition

The girls have entered the final week of the Sharks 2019 swim season, and we're all sad that it is coming to a close.  Julia has gotten some extra recognition this week, starting with a mention in the Hometown Weekly paper:

and ending with receiving Swimmer of the Week!:

Julia has spent pretty much the entire Sharks season swimming as a 13-14 year old girl, despite only being 12.  Because the field of girls in the 13-14 range was lacking on the team this year, Julia was chosen to step up and swim above her age group, often winning events even though she was a year behind.  This led to many confusing situations, such as when other swimmers would ask how old she was in order to assess how soon their own age group would be racing.

15-YR-OLD: Are you next in breast stroke?
JULIA: Yeah.
15-YR-OLD: Okay, wait, how old are you?
JULIA: Twelve.  Well, actually, I'm swimming thirteen-fourteen, but I'm really twelve.
15-YR-OLD: Okay, wait, now I'm really confused.  How old are you??

OR:

TIMER: What's your name?
JULIA: Julia Rowe.
TIMER: I don't see your name on the list.
JULIA: That's because I'm on the 11-12 list.
TIMER: But this was girls' 13-14 butterfly?
JULIA: Yeah, I'm really twelve, but I'm swimming up an age group.
TIMER: (flipping through pages to find the right age group)

At any rate, her efforts were recognized and she now owns her third, or perhaps fourth, Swimmer of the Week cap, to add to her collection of at least 15 swim caps in total!
