Meow-Meow's New Name, and Julia's New Book

A few mornings ago, Madeleine came into my bedroom to awaken me with a highly important announcement.

MADELEINE: Mama?  Meow-Meow's name ISN'T Meow-Meow anymore.  She has a NEW NAME.  But...I'm NOT gonna tell you her name, because it's POTTY TALK.
ME: Oh.  Okay.
MADELEINE: Yeah.  Because Toot-Butt is POTTY TALK, so I'm not gonna TELL you her name because it's POTTY TALK.

Toot-Butt, formally known as Meow-Meow.

On another topic entirely, Julia wrote a new book today, one which is apparently intended to be part of a series à la "Ivy & Bean."

Emiylia and Olivia: The Hospitle Trip
by Julia Rowe

(featured on the back cover is, according to Julia, a picture of the next book in the Emiylia and Olivia series):

From what is shown here, this next book looks pretty exciting, don't you think?

Take a look inside "The Hospitle Trip" to find out about Emiylia and Olivia's amazing adventures.  As a fun activity, see if you can count how many different ways Emiylia's name is spelled, and how many extra letters the name accrues over the various pages:

"Sens Emiylia broke her ankle, Olivia was going to the hospitle to see hre evryday.  It was not so esiy for Emiylliya at schoole.  She had to walk up stars."

I can definitely see how walking up stars would be hard for poor Emiyllia with her broken ankle, especially since those stairs look more like a vertical wall-climb than your average star case.

"Do you wanen't me to help you Emiylliya?' ask't Olivia.  'Ok and rember I'll see you.'  Schoole was ovre and Olivia whent to the hospitle to see her."

Wait.  Why is Emiylliya back in the hospitle?  I thought she wanen't Olivia to help her walk up the stars.  Am I missing something here??

"When she got in Emiyllia was waching tv.  Emiyllia trnd off the tv.  'Hi Olivia."

Well, at least Emiyllia looks pretty happy to be back in the hospitle, probably because she gets to wach "Peppa Pig."

"I haf to staye in the hospitle now so you won't see me at schoole.'  'But why?'  'The docder saes I can't walk upstars."

But I still don't get why Emiyllia has to staye in the hospitle.  Can't she just stay at home until the docder allows her to walk upstars again?  Or doesn't her school have handicapped ramps?  I can't imagine Emiyllia's health insurance company wants to pay for her to staye in the hospitle just because she can't walk up stars.

"For weeks and weeks Emiyllia staded in the hospitle.  Olivia miss't her.  Finily Emiyllia came bake to schoole.  The End."

What?!  Emiyllia stated for weeks and weeks??  She must have some seriously PREMIUM health insurance.  I'm glad she finily came bake to schoole though.  I mean, watching "Peppa Pig" is fun and all, but weeks and weeks of doing that probably got pretty old, pretty fast.  And now the best friends can be together again and put their initials in hearts and walk up stars together and all that jazz.

I don't know about you, but I can't WAIT for the next Emiylia and Olivia book, if it's anywhere near as riveting as this one was!

  1. Why does toot-butt WAIT for people?

Was Emiyllia not at schoole when she was having to scale those vertical stars? Or was that just like, hypothetically, if she had to be at schoole instead of the hospitle, it would be not so esiy for her because of the stars?

  2. Well - there is a big question mark over Olivia's head during that scene so maybe she's confused as to what happened too.
