Vermont Visit

So, we Rowes are up in Vermont for the long holiday weekend to visit with Nana and Gramps and to attend their big 50th anniversary party tomorrow.  We are excited to have aunt, uncle and cousin Rowes here with us, as well as our friends Tristan and Mark (of "doesn't it look silly to have TWO Marks here?") and Mark's kids visiting the same area of Vermont for the weekend.

Here are just some of the comments Madeleine has made to and and about various people on this trip so far:


To Gramps, regarding the Goldfish she was eating for snack:
MADELEINE: These fish are BAD fish and they're swimming DOWN into my tummy to KILL JESUS!


To me, regarding her cousin, the son of Aunt Kathleen and Uncle Mike:
MADELEINE: But Mama?  Why does he think that Uncle Mike's name is DADDY?


To Nana, regarding Lake Champlain:
MADELEINE: Nana?  Why is your POOL-
JULIA: It's NOT a pool, Madeleine!  It's Lake CHAMPLAIN!
MADELEINE: Well Julia.  I'm BETENDING it's a pool.
ME: Let her just betend, Julia, it's okay.
MADELEINE: Nana?  Why does your POOL look like it's DIRTY?
NANA: Well, it's lake water, so it has rocks, and sand, and things like that underneath.  It's not actually dirty water.  Lots of people swim in lakes.
MADELEINE: But Nana.  Is that why it looks kind of like BROWNISH-BLACKISH?


To me, regarding the chewing of her Cowie lovey's ear:
ME: Madeleine, please don't bite Cowie's ear.
MADELEINE: (removing Cowie and chewing and swallowing something in her mouth)
ME: Madeleine, honey, what are you eating??  Is that a piece of Cowie?
MADELEINE: (solemnly) It's NOT a piece of Cowie.
ME: Then what is it??
MADELEINE: It's something ELSE that is just really very fluffy.


Here are some highlights from our trip so far:
